I married the man of my dreams (for the most part) over 7 years ago. We became greatly discouraged that we weren't pregnant within the first 6 months. Fast forward six years. After multiple surgeries, months of hormones (not consecutively), and a really great ferility doctor we found ourselves adopting a sibling group of 4 children. Obviously there is alot of details I'm leaving out but the short story is we decided to adopt 4 children (at one time). Yes, apparently we bumped our heads and wanted to make up for lost time. We weren't getting any younger, you know. My husband is 35 and I'm pushing 35 as well.
We have had the children for a year now and are still awaiting finalization (it should be soon... we hope). We have 3 boys and 1 girl. The kids are 8 (in March), 5, 3, and 2. Things are finally settling down and we feel like a family. I work full time and my husband is a wonderful at-home dad. I know that sounds strange but it just works out better that way for us. I LOVE
my job, it pays better, and has great benefits. We wanted a parent at home and it just made sense to us this way.
Anyway, my husband says to me the other day, "We should adopt another one." Huh!?!?!? What? Four at once wasn't "deep end" enough for ya? But I actually found myself thinking, "Hmm... that's an idea." We thought we'd get another girl. Give our daughter a sister and shake things up a bit. We are able and willing so why not?
That's my question... why not? What are the pros and cons? We are settling in finally, why shake up a good thing? On the other hand, why not give her a sister? On the other hand, do we really want FIVE? Neither of us EVER thought we would have five! How many is enough? We both hated being middle children so... Thoughts?

Umm, You're crazy.
ReplyDeleteSorry, that was my first thought. :)
I think that if you both feel that you can handle it, and that it'd be a positive experience for you and the kids, then go for it. At this point, what's one more, right? And you've mentioned "having" one more that could be all of yours, and maybe this is the way that that will happen.
You guys are doing great Cory! You know I struggle with the option of adopting 1 or 2 more - some days I think we could do it and why shouldn't we? Other days i think no way could we handle more than 1 more. Only you and Eddie will know what feels right when the time comes. I wish you the best!
